Solo developer - 22 - all in on Derush since 2022
Somewhere in the Vosges mountains
Sunday bike rideI grew up with a passion for computers and an urge to simplify everything around me. At 22, my weeks run on code and, between two lines of it, on mountain passes to climb by bike or trails to hike - two sports where pushing yourself is the only rule.
I love learning. Every new technology, every new project is an excuse to go one step further. That same energy is what pushed me to build derush.tv from scratch, alone, with no outside funding, learning everything I needed along the way. (and with plenty of headaches)
It started with a simple request: find one specific 30-second moment in more than 20 hours of VOD. A streamer wanted to make Shorts for social media but could no longer find the moment he had in mind - a moment that had got huge laughs during a live, except he no longer knew which day, or which VOD.
Several of us split the VODs between us and re-watched entire afternoons of footage for... 30 short seconds. I then looked for an existing solution so it would never happen again: nothing at all. No alternative.
That is when, in 2022, at 18, I set myself a goal: become a good enough developer to build that solution myself. derush.tv became my north star through my studies, the reason to work harder than the rest and learn faster.
A streamer asked me to find a 30-second moment buried in 20 hours of VOD. Several of us spent entire afternoons on it. No solution existed, so at 18 I decided to become the developer who could build one.
After two years of learning, I started building derush.tv. I alternated between freelance work to fund myself and sprints on the project. Mentally draining, but every line of code was progress, and a joy.
derush.tv 1.0 shipped on April 30, 2025. Fifteen updates followed through the end of September, driven by the first streamers' feedback.
After one last sprint, 2.0 shipped with an interface redesigned from scratch. The editing Studio followed on August 29, the automatic review on September 8.
The hard part
For two years I alternated between freelance work to fund myself and sprints on derush.tv. One or two months for clients, one or two months on my passion, over and over. Putting what you care about on hold to pay the bills is mentally draining.
But every coding session on derush.tv had a particular flavour: that of building something that would matter to real people. It was worth every sacrifice.

Every project, a new challenge
Pushing myself
Always going one step further
It is September 2026. 2.0 shipped on April 12, the editing Studio on August 29, the automatic review on September 8, and the 2.3.0 release of September 16 brought the Studio up to speed: subtitles, reframing, overlays, voice-over. All three roadmap milestones are delivered. What comes next is built from the feedback of the streamers who use it.
