What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser and can read back on later visits. It can serve very different purposes: keeping you signed in, remembering your language, or recognising you across sites to analyse your browsing.
Two other mechanisms look like cookies without being cookies: local storage (localStorage), which persists until you clear it and is never sent to the server, and session storage (sessionStorage), cleared when you close the tab. The law treats them the same way as cookies: what matters is not the technique but what it is used for. So we list all of them here.
Why we use them
We use them for two reasons, and two only.
To make the site work. Keeping you signed in, remembering the language you picked, remembering whether your sidebar is collapsed. Without these there is no service: they do not require your permission, and are never used for tracking.
To measure site traffic. Knowing which pages get visited, to understand what works and what does not. This goes through Google Analytics and only happens if you agree to it.
We run no targeted advertising, we sell no data, and there is no advertising pixel or embedded social network on this site.
Strictly necessary trackers (no consent needed)
These are required for the site to work. The law exempts them from consent, precisely because refusing them would mean being unable to use the service.

These are only set if you accept them. If you refuse, or have not chosen yet, Google's script is not even loaded by your browser, nothing is sent.

Configuration: IP anonymisation is on, Google advertising signals (Google Signals, remarketing) are off, and Google Consent Mode starts in a denied state.
Changing your choice
You can change your mind at any time, in either direction, without giving a reason and without any impact on your use of the service.
When you withdraw your consent, we also delete the Google Analytics cookies already in your browser: the withdrawal is effective, not merely declarative.
Deleting cookies yourself
Independently of our settings, your browser lets you view, block and delete cookies for any site. The steps are in the privacy settings of Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge.
Note: deleting the strictly necessary cookies will sign you out and clear your display preferences.
