Your VODs expire in 7, 14 or 60 days

Twitch keeps a past broadcast 7 days with no status, 14 days for an Affiliate, 60 days for a Partner or with Prime or Turbo. After that, the video no longer exists and support cannot recover it. Here is how not to lose the moments.

The situation

A Twitch VOD has an end date. No status, seven days. Affiliate, fourteen. Partner, Prime or Turbo, sixty. The 2K or vertical version of a live expires after seven days in every case. And if past broadcast storage was not on before the live, there is nothing to recover.

derush.tv does not store your VODs: they stay on Twitch. What it keeps are the markers, the cuts you extract and the clips you import. The right reflex is to review early, while the video is still there.

How it goes

  1. 1

Check that past broadcasts are stored

On Twitch, the Store Past Broadcasts setting must be on before the live, from the Creator Dashboard on the web. It is not available in the mobile app.

  2. 2

Place the markers during the live

The review panel opens live. Notes and segments are placed while the stream runs, by you or by your team, and the chat places its markers.

  3. 3

Review right after, not the following week

The next day, the VOD is there with its markers. That is the time to cut: seven days go by fast when you stream several times a week.

  4. 4

    Extract the passages that matter

A cut of the VOD can be downloaded: the passage then exists on your side, regardless of Twitch's retention period.

  5. 5

    File the night's Twitch clips

The clips your viewers created can be imported and sorted into folders. A Twitch clip does not follow the VOD's retention period, but found late, it is found less well.

What you use

The features involved

Every feature has its own page and its availability status, read from the same place as in the app. Nothing here promises more than that page does.

What stays in your hands

  • derush.tv does not download a whole VOD and does not restore an expired one: Twitch cannot either.
  • Once the VOD is deleted, your notes, markers and segments stay on the channel, but they point to a video that no longer exists.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know how long Twitch keeps my VODs?

By your status. 7 days with no status, 14 days for an Affiliate, 60 days for a Partner or for a Prime or Turbo account. That is the rule published in Twitch's help center.

Do my notes disappear with the VOD?

No. They stay on derush.tv, with the segments and markers. But the video they point to can no longer be played once Twitch deletes it.

Can I keep a whole VOD with derush.tv?

Not today. You download cuts of the VOD, passage by passage. Full VOD download is announced on its feature page, with its status.

Can Twitch give me back a VOD that was not stored?

No. If past broadcast storage was not on before the live, or if the live did not save, the content does not exist on Twitch's servers. Twitch support says so itself.
